Third Fire Station Opens
In November of 1960, a new fire station
was erected in Fletcher Hills at 795 Tyrone.
This station replaced one at 2363 Center
Place which was acquired from the Fletcher Hills Fire Protection
District as part of an annexation into the city.
The split level station cost approximately
$53,000. It houses a single engine company and along with the usual
amenities, boasts a large workshop.

City's First Ambulance Built by
Fire Department
In 1969, in an effort to provide the
city with its own ambulance, a Pontiac station wagon was purchased.
The wagon, by the hands of the fire
fighters, and with the assistance of a local body shop, transformed
the vehicle into a first class ambulance.
The "guppy" as the ambulance
was called served the city for several years and was staffed by
advanced first aid personnel.
